First world problems

First world problems. We all complain everyday about our first world problems. My train’s been delayed. My electricity went out. Theres nothing in the fridge that you want to eat. You can’t make up your mind on which shirt you want. All of these somewhat trivial problems seem to annoy us everyday. We overreact to such problems everyday. All we do now is complain complain complain.

Yet does it even occur to us that there are worse things in life than these trivial problems. We live in a large world full of different people with different lives but we hardly notice anything about other people. Kids in third world countries slowly die of hunger. War ravages countries such as Ukraine and Palestine. Ebola strikes countries killing hundreds. Yet we are oblivious to these problems in the world. We many look at them on the news but soon after we forget all about them and move on.

Perhaps we should consider ourselves lucky to be in a safe country away from war, hunger or disease. Maybe these first world problems shouldn’t bother us so much and maybe we should be a little bit more grateful that we live in such lucky country. Think about others before overreacting to such trivial problems. Try make a difference in our world donate to a charity, Help out the less fortunate, look towards people to are living in difficult parts of the world. Even if you are just one person because if we all work together we can make a difference in this world.

Sport in our society

Sport plays a large part in Australian society. Many of us play or follow sport in some way wether it be soccer, table tennis or the Olympics. In my opinion I find sport to be a way of gathering people together. We’ve set up these games as a way of bringing people together and bringing in things such as competition into play. I enjoy playing sport and I don’t mind watching sport as well. I enjoy playing with my friends and talking about moments in sporting events with my friends as well. I think sport brings people together. Even though we might not go for the same team we can still appreciate the joy of playing or watching sport. Playing with my friends helps build team work and trust and helps us stay healthy at the same time. Sport really helps connect people together as two complete strangers can start a conversation about sport because sport can bring the world together. For example the FIFA world cup it has many countries in the event and even if a certain country isn’t in the event they can still start conversations about a certain player or a certain play that took place. People truly are connected by sport because of its wide spread influence. However there is some foul play in sport.

I think sport can be healthy if we all keep our heads level about it. Some of us can get too worked up when playing or talking about sport. Arguments can break out because someone may have not been following the rules or people can get hot headed about a certain player that they like and that can create some un-sportsman like conduct. However many people are able to overcome these differences and keep competition at a well behaved and sportsman like level.

What role does sport play in my life? Well I used to do karate for about 6 years and then I dropped out because it just didn’t appeal to me anymore. I found that I didn’t get into karate because not many of my friends go into it and I never watched any of the major tournaments, but from what I see the more people you know that are into a certain type of sport the hyped up you will get about it. And that is what I think is great about sport. Sport can truly bring people of all kinds together.

To kill a mockingbird

To kill a mocking bird is a book written by Harper Lee about standing up for what is right in an apartheid society.  If you haven’t read the book then I suggest go read it straight away it’s a great book. I’ll give you a brief outline anyway. It’s about a man who stands up for a black man in an apartheid time in a court case. It tells the story from the eyes of the man’s daughter whose name is Scout. It follows what she does and her relationships with her father whose name is Atticus, her brother Jeremy or “Jem”, their housekeeper Calpurnia, their summer friend Dill, The mysterious character known as Boo Radley. I’m going to talk about the many aspects on how to be human. Let’s first talk about what being human is. To me being human is be individual. To be human is be different. A robot couldn’t be human because you could just make another robot exactly the same and that wouldn’t be human to me. That’s not all to being human however. This is my opinion so it may differ to your own. I believe that being human isn’t necessarily a good thing. Sometimes people are different in bad ways. People can act in ways that make being human ugly. Some of the things we say and do can really bring down other humans. In To kill a mockingbird all the of the characters in the book are human, but there are some humans who aren’t very pleasant characters. Take Bob Ewell for example the main antagonist to the novel. He is human but he isn’t a very beautiful human. His actions against Tom Robinson who is the man being convicted of rape are quite foul. Many people in the jury during the trail were quite prejudiced towards Tom Robinson. Tom being dark skinned didn’t have much of a chance in the trail since during that time people were quite prejudiced towards dark skinned people. The Jury had assumed that Tom had committed rape all based on the assumption that he was black. He was black so he must have  done it right?  Such actions in those days would’ve been deemed as demeaning and racist in today’s society. This is a reason that being human isn’t always beautiful, but there are many times that humans truly shine. Such as Atticus the lawyer who stood for what he thought was right. He knew that Tom Robinson didn’t commit the crime and so he stood up for it. Even though society said that black people were criminals Atticus stood and said that he was innocent and that deserved to be set free. However it was just one man in the end and although one said that it wasn’t him the majority of society still came to the prejudiced conclusion that it was him. However he does tell Scout that he has started a small change. A change in way people saw things. How people say each other as humans. How we could get past all our differences and that although was makes us different makes us human. There is one fundamental bond that brings us all together so that we can each other human. Even one man can change something. Being human is growing into many different things  each day with more acceptance of racial or sexual equality . We grow into more beautiful humans each day.

Too much of anything is bad

Unhealthy obsession?

Too much of anything is never good. When someone likes something they grow attached to it. They will often often defend their interests when ever someone criticizes their interests. Some people will look up to celebrities. Others will be interested in movie’s or shows. If we like something then we allocate more of our time into it, but when do become to interested in our interests.

Celebrities will always have fans. Whether they are music celebrities or movie stars. We may like them because they’re good singers, good actors or maybe just good looking. Of course it’s good to like things. We all need to find certain things that grab our interests. Of course a good interest is one that does purposely hurt people in any way. I found that in my generation that many young girls will often find interest young male celebrities who are singers. Now it’s fine to like something, but this where the obsession kicks in. Many of these girls allocate too much time into these celebrities and sometimes do do some crazy things. Examples would be fans that stalk their celebrity and dedicate all their lives into trying to meet their celebrity . Following them and sometimes even going through their rubbish. This is an example of when obsession has gone too far. Of course this is a very extreme example of obsession.

In my opinion I think it’s fine to be obsessed with something. As long as your interest doesn’t hurt anyone else. Your interest should be something that lets you connect with others not something that pushes you away from people. Obsession is becoming more popular these days with access to tools such as the internet letting people find what they like easily. I think obsession is healthy if it’s kept under control

The influence of music

As seen in the post many kids in this generation are being heavily influenced. This is a growing trend in recent years such as in the 1970s with the growing popularity of the mullet which in my opinion looked terrible but nonetheless was trendy back in the day and was influenced by music as the many of the famous band members had. As for back for has music been that influential before the 20th century I would have to say that it had influence but societies influence was much stronger back then. Back in the old days people would be very judgmental and  be very stiff with things such as clothes. Many people would be very strict with clothing and hairstyle. Being different back in the old days was seen to be a very bad thing. Nowadays there is a sense of freedom that we can express ourselves whoever we choose. Although many people have been seen to abuse this freedom using the influence of music just an excuse to do outrageous things. Maybe we need to tone down with the freedom and guide our children on the right path but at the same time letting them express themselves in a safe and free way.

The necessity of play

Play is essential to a happy childhood I believe. Letting kids go free and having a good time is essential for a child to grow up happy. The bonds of friendship are developed through play with friends. Playing develops important skills like social skills, but I think the most important factor is bonds that we share with our friends. These are one of the most important things we can value in our lives. Friendship is a key to living our lives. We learn through our friends. Sometimes we can learn good and bad and sometimes we have to make mistakes in friends to truly learn a lesson. Playing is key to make mistakes. Without mistakes then you truly aren’t life.
